Not a lot happens on Lindisfarne/Holy Island which is one of the many great things about this place. Situated across a causeway, inaccessible at high tide, Lindisfarne is a haven for bird watchers and tourists keen to see the beautiful castle and priory.
Dining and drinking options on the island are limited to the two pubs, one hotel and odd cafe open during the day. However, on our last visit we found a new contender that wouldn’t be out of place on an upmarket high street.
Situated at the top of the main road, Pilgrims Coffee is a relatively new coffee house dedicated to grinding and serving their own blend of fresh coffee. The small café serves a selection of freshly ground coffees and home made snacks for breakfast and lunch. In the summer months they also open for fresh pizza nights which sound fun.
On Sunny days you can sit in the wonderful old courtyard, surrounding by chirping birds who hop from the trees to the tables and back, with charm and cheekiness.
Inside there are a couple of leather armchairs to relax by the fire, or you can head upstairs to find tables and chairs.
The food here is fresh, the hospitality is warm and the coffee delicious. Chuck in free wifi and you have a wonderful place to chill out or warm up depending on the weather!
