In the 1950’s legendary English actor David Niven fell in love with the South of France, it’s climate and luxury lifestyle. The Oscar winning actor fell in love with the Riviera whilst filming Bonjour Tristesse in 1957, purchasing the gorgeous Lo Scoglietto in the early Sixties.
Lo Scoglietto means ‘The Little Rock’ as it sits on small rocky outcrop on the side of Villefranche Sur Mer, looking towards Beaulieu-Sur-Mer. Whilst the house itself is private you can still admire the beauty both from a distance, and up close as it stands on the ‘Place David Niven’ which is part of the seaside path.
For me this is just a dreamy house that radiates South of France class. The beautiful pastel pink house sits perfectly framed between the blue sea and sky, the green trees and purple flowers of the Riviera. The landscaped gardens wrap around the house and down to a small harbour.
David Niven loved made this into a loving family home splitting his time between the South of France, Hollywood and London.
Now called, ‘La Fleur du Cap‘ it was to remain David Niven’s Riviera home until his passing. You can see it featured in his final film, The Curse of the Pink Panther.
Visiting Lo Scoglietto
The address is 06230 Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, France. It is located on the seaside path that runs from Anao Plage in Beaulieu Sur Mer down to Cap Ferrat. It is about a 15 minute walk to/from Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild.
Anyone can visit Place David Niven to admire this beautiful villa up close, just remember it is a private home!
